What is the 1096 form?
Form 1096 is an annual summary and transmittal of information returns. It's used by businesses to report certain kinds of payments, such as rent, royalties, prizes and awards, and interest income paid to non-resident aliens. If you e-file your tax forms, 1096 will be optional.
When is the form 1096 due? The IRS requires businesses to file this form by February 28th following the end of their tax year (December 31st). It allows you to file a paper or electronic 1096 form. If you are filing electronically, there is no need to mail a copy to the IRS.
