What is an Annual Leave?

An Annual Leave is a leave that is granted within the leave year (or period) to take a holiday vacation or for health and personal reasons. This type of leave may also be called "vacation leave".

Annual leave VS Sick leave

Paid annual leave is different from sick leave and holiday leave, so it's important to understand the difference between them.

  • Annual leave is time off work that an employee needs or wants to take for any purpose. They can be taken in regular blocks of time over the course of a year, or as individual days throughout the year.
  • Sick leave refers to time off work due to illness or injury. It's often used when a person is too sick to go to work but does not require hospitalization because they have enough energy left to look after themselves at home (or wherever else).
