What is a backfill?
A backfill is a position that is filled by an employee who was previously working in another position. Backfills are commonly filled by employees who are already on the payroll, because they have experience with the company and its policies. They may also be filled by people who have worked for other companies, but still have knowledge of how to run things properly.
A backfill position can be seen as a temporary solution to an immediate need or problem within a business.
Why do you need to backfill a position?
Looking at the definition of backfill may be a question, but what is the advantage of this approach for the company?
Backfill a position is an excellent way to:
- Grow your company by bringing in new talent and fresh perspectives.
- Gain valuable insights into how to better allocate your resources.
- Give you time to find the right replacement for the position, without having to rush through the hiring process or compromise on the quality of the candidate.
