What is a 1099-R form?
A 1099-R is a federal tax form sent to individuals who withdraw money from their retirement account early or receive distributions.
A 1099-R form is used for reporting distributions from retirement plans, including employees receiving contributions from their employer or employees who received distributions from any IRA or other retirement savings plans. The 1099-R form is also used to report distributions from 401(k) and other retirement plans, section 457 savings plans (for example, government employee pensions), annuities, and even life insurance policies that have been converted into cash value.
